17. The phrase “the sign of thy coming” indicates to me that Jesus had to leave the disciples and then come back again (known as the Parousia). He did leave when He ascended after His Resurrection.

Those who believed in the future day when the Messiah would come went to a place called Sheol when they physically died during the Old Covenant and had to wait there until Jesus died on the Cross and the judgment of the sheep and goats took place.
