8. That when Christ died on the cross for the sin of the world it was the end of one of the ages we have been discussing (the first one, the Old Covenant). Note: The plural form of age in this verse (ages) has been a problem for some readers. It must be understood that there was a period, or even periods, of time prior to the Old Covenant. The Old Covenant, as we shall see in greater detail in later Learning Activities, began when God established it with Abraham. There were human beings on earth prior to Abraham, but they were Gentiles, not Jews. The use of “ages” in this verse refers back to ALL time, or ages past, as we can see from the context and content of the verse when it states “since the foundation of the world.”
