Learning Activity 4 Self-Check
2. The word "us" implies more than one person are involved in the creation
of man. "Us" refers here to the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit.
6.
There is one God but three distinct persons, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and
all three are God.
7. Although there is no absolute answer to how it is that
one God can have three distinct personages, for we are trying to describe and understand
someone who exists in the fourth dimensional spirit realm, there are a number of
earthly examples that may be helpful in relating this truth to our minds.
One
simple illustration is the three leaf clover. Although it is one clover, it has three
leaves.
The substance water is also an example. All water is made up of hydrogen
and oxygen but it can exist in three different states; solid (ice), liquid (water),
and gas (steam).
Another consideration of water is that there is a pressure
and temperature (called the triple point) where if water, ice and water vapor are
placed into this environment of temperature and pressure they will stay in the state
in which they were when placed there. That is to say liquid, solid and gas can also
exist simultaneously at the triple point. If God has arranged such a physical law
as the triple point, it is plausible that as a single God He can be three persons.
Cookie
batter has also been helpful to others in understanding the Trinity. A large batch
of cookie dough that has been thoroughly mixed contains flour, sugar, etc. If a batch
is separated into three equal size batches each batch will still contain all of the
elements of the original.
Although these examples all fall somewhat short
of an absolute answer, they have been helpful to many in understanding the Trinity.
